The first of these mistakes includes “wishful thinking”. When a business-minded professional works with a design professional, some cool, crazy ideas are likely to emerge. However, most are not technically feasible. An automobile-based time travel device is still fiction.
If you bring together design professionals with technology professionals, but leave out the business input, you end up with a technically feasible solution that may not possess the true functions and tools the end user requires. Amphibious vehicles were too much of a compromise – not very good as an underpowered car, and not very good as a boat.
If you focus only on the business and technology, but eliminate the design aspect, the technology, tools and functions are there—but the user experience is as effective as a Formula 1 steering wheel. It can only be handled by professionals.
